Kamloops, Vancouver, BC

Serge migrated to Canada to start a new life away from the war in his native country, the Ukraine. He brought with him a device for translating as I spoke in English about Bhagavan, Krishna. He’s a real sincere soul, as many Ukraine and Russian immigrants are. They take their spiritual life quite seriously. I very much enjoy being in their company.

From Kamloops Jaya Govinda and I joined our host Hari Kirtan on that early morning walk admiring the mountain slopes on both sides of the Thompson River. This mountain air is very energy giving. Jaya and I go south towards Vancouver. Once we get beyond the thicker mountains as we approach Hope we are confronted with snow and an entire different eco-system. The lower Mainland is now upon us and again - a new environment. Rain is on its third day creating a lovely greenness. The fog is thick and all is a grey tone. Nature is what it is - a power play. The traffic presence gives it an ugly aspect, however. By now, most people know how I feel about the automobile. I see them as an evil necessity. I wish that they could actually be beautiful works of art, something to really admire.

When I was young our school took us to Greenfield Village so we went for a day’s trip to Detroit. There, apart from the thrill of having on display the chair that Lincoln sat on when assassinated (the blood stains were still there), we looked at the old model cars, Ford, I imagine. Now they were awesome! I have no qualms about such beauties. They were glorified coaches. I wish we could go down the time-machine back to stylishness.
