We did well on these consecutive days at the auditorium in Pinewoods. It is something different – a Krishna Folk Fest, the same show as the night before. The audience took to the presentation well. It was very responsive to the chants which we started with an “OM!” These people were great to mingle with in the foyer after the show.
From the auditorium, I took to the sidewalk at dusk towards our hotel accommodation. I needed more steps. I met a man at the edge of town who asked if I could pray for him. He was hoping that his father would come back. It seems he’s missing him. You do meet these more believing types. “God bless you!” he said as he moved on.
I continued onto Queen Street, which is undergoing a renovation as a downtown core thoroughfare. I met another fellow who was curious and respectful.
“What’s with the get up?”
“They are robes.”
“You’re a monk?”
“Yes, I am. As a monk I function to develop my inner self. I also walk for my physical upkeep.”
My new friend, Edward, who works at Tim Hortons, was indeed thrilled that we met. I left him a card in case he wanted to follow up. In fact, this town known more familiarly as ‘The Soo’ was a decent experience for me and the members of Bhakti Academy. A doctor couple, the Guptas, were extremely good to us. Our second day on this trip has proven to be a day of meeting, greeting, and eating.
